WHY DOES MY VOICE FEEL TIRED AT THE END OF MY DAY?

WHY DOES MY VOICE FEEL TIRED AT THE END OF MY DAY?

Over my 28 years of teaching voice, I’ve found that most vocal issues stem not from singing, but from speaking. Students often tell me that by the end of their day, their voice feels completely worn out. Touring artists mention that radio interviews and meet-and-greets drain their voice more than the actual performances. Teachers, doctors, telemarketers, and customer service reps, many of whom rely heavily on their voice, often seek out lessons because their voices feel strained and tired after a long day.

This problem is more common than you might think. The root cause? Many people have lost their instinctive connection to proper vocal technique. When we were born, we naturally knew how to cry out with ease. Babies instinctively breathe, support, and project their voice correctly. If you’ve ever watched a baby cry, you’ll notice their belly expands as they inhale and contract as they exhale. This is natural, diaphragmatic breathing in action.

Unfortunately, as we grow older, we tend to forget these natural instincts. Instead of using our bodies efficiently, we often resort to less effective habits. Many of us grip from the throat when we speak, which leads to vocal tension, or we expel more air than necessary, drying out our vocal cords. Both of these habits can lead to vocal fatigue and exhaustion by the end of the day.

If you want to avoid vocal exhaustion from everyday speech, the first step is to relearn correct vocal technique. I cover this extensively in my free e-book, Rebalance Your Voice, which comes with every purchase at DoctorVox.us.

However, sometimes even proper technique isn’t enough. If you’re a fifth-grade teacher trying to maintain command of your classroom or someone who spends hours on the phone, your voice might still tire out despite using good technique. This is where your VOX device comes in.

I highly recommend using your VOX throughout the day while at work. Just five to ten vocal slides through your VOX device can work wonders. Whether it’s between phone calls, during class changes, or on your lunch break, these exercises will help massage your vocal cords, revitalizing your voice and keeping you fresh for the remainder of the day.

No matter your profession, there are multiple moments throughout your day when you can reach for your VOX to give your voice the care it needs. If you’re feeling vocally tired at the end of the day, remember, you now have a powerful tool at your disposal to take charge of your voice.

Use your VOX daily, and your voice will thank you.
